At a glanceIbaraki Prefectural Police updated its “Various Courses” page on 20 August 2026. It links the course list for people obtaining a licence directly at a licence centre, accredited education for existing licence holders, and the August–September moped acquisition-course schedule.
Location matters: this notice applies to Ibaraki Prefecture. Booking methods, course dates, fees and availability can differ by school and prefecture.

What the update covers

The official page now provides a participating-school list, an August–September timetable for the moped acquisition course, and detailed accreditation information for driver-education programmes. Ibaraki Police instructs prospective students to contact the driving school directly.

A licence-acquisition course is required for certain people who obtain an ordinary, motorcycle or Class 2 large/ordinary licence directly at a licence centre without graduating from a designated driving school.

What is accredited driver education?

This is education approved by the Public Safety Commission for people who already hold a valid licence but have limited driving experience, lack confidence or want to improve. It extends beyond paper-driver refreshers: some programmes cover senior-driver or renewal-equivalent education, regional driving conditions, motorcycle passengers and company safety.

The eight programme categories

Course 1: Limited four-wheel experience

For people with little experience driving large or ordinary passenger vehicles.

Course 2: Limited motorcycle experience

For people with little large-motorcycle, ordinary-motorcycle or moped experience.

Course 3: Senior-training equivalent

For drivers aged 70+. Completion within six months before renewal can replace the senior-driver course when the official conditions are met.

Course 4: Older-driver education

Builds hazard prediction and avoidance around the driver’s own aptitude and skill.

Course 5: Regional driving

Develops skills and knowledge for the terrain and other characteristics of the area.

Course 6: Renewal-training equivalent

Completion within six months before the renewal application can replace renewal training when the official conditions are met.

Course 7: Motorcycle passenger safety

Covers skills and knowledge for carrying a passenger on large or ordinary motorcycles.

Course 8: Company and advanced safety

For individuals or organizations seeking stronger driving skills and knowledge.
